Former Grand Wizard of the KKK David Duke targets Tucson woman running for Arizona House

After an article entitled Meet the millennial Mexican-American Jewish woman running for office on the southern border was published by the Arizona Jewish Post, the nation’s most famous member of the Ku Klux Klan (after Donald Trump’s father) and former Grand Wizard of the KKK, David Duke, just about lost his mind after meeting the embodiment of his worst nightmare: a young Master’s Degree-Educated Mexican-American Jewish woman!

The Anti-Defamation League of Arizona issued a statement in response to David Duke’s Tweet.

Hernandez released the following statement in response:

David Duke, the man we all know as the white supremacist, the Holocaust denier and KKK leader who has incited so much hate and discrimination throughout our country has now decided that I a Mexican-American Jewish woman would be his target of hate. He did not shy away, and neither did his followers by sharing their disgust of my existence,

My parents taught us that we should always be proud of who we are and always speak up. I must say that knowing that this man has me on his radar shook me to my core but also empowers me to continue fighting for what believe in. I may be in Arizona a Republican state, but I know I can and will be elected with the support of my friends who stand up against bigotry and hate. We are living in a time where hate groups and extremist have found their voice in our country.

Campaigns have thrived by attacking Mexicans like me. The reality is that no matter what anyone says I will continue to be proud to be a Mexican-American Jewish woman and do what I can to help others in need. Hatred and bigotry have no place in my home or state and the trolls and hate coming way will also pass. David Duke, you may have a base of supporters but so do I. We are here to stay and will continue to fight against hatred and bigotry.
As Paul Newman said” If you don’t have enemies, you don’t have character” and today I will show the David’s of the world that my fellow “Hispanics” will indeed intensify.

The Hernandez family is not new to controversy. Three of the Hernandez siblings are running for office this year.

Daniel Hernandez rose to the national spotlight after saving Congressmember Gabrielle Giffords’ life. His first elected office was to the Sunnyside school board where he was part of the coup that overthrew the scandalous superintendent Manuel Isquierdo who, just as with TUSD’s HT Sanchez, had the support of the local political-mafia Don Grijalva Clan in Tucson; in this case it was Sunnyside school board member Eva Dong who was under the spell of the superintendent. Hateful flyers focused on Daniel’s sexual orientation were spread around in an attempted smear campaign. During subsequent meetings at the board meetings, Daniel’s sister Consuelo, protesting actions by the school board, had a restraining order placed on her by Eva Dong.

The order by Eva Dong was fought and eventually lifted, but now it is Consuelo Hernandez who is running for Sunnyside school board, which would place her in a seat once held by her brother and next to none other than Eva Dong.

If Alma Hernandez wins in her race for LD3, she would join her brother Daniel who represents LD2 in southern Arizona if he wins re-election. Combined with a win by Consuelo in Sunnyside, the students and residents of the west and south sides of Tucson will have strong and courageous representation in the state legislature despite the hateful and bigoted personal attacks on the Hernandez Family.
